Youth Breaking Barriers: From Art to Action

Being young in Peru is an act of bravery. It means growing up between dreams and obstacles, between opportunities that seem distant and a voice that insists on being heard. It means learning to balance passions and responsibilities, always seeking a space where vocation and purpose meet.

Since childhood, my life revolved around dance. Dancing was not just an art but an extension of myself, a refuge where I could express myself without words. However, over time, I discovered another passion: the academic world, debate, and the construction of ideas. Choosing between the two was a difficult process. How do you decide between what fills your soul and what drives you to change the world? I know that many athletes, artists, and young people who have had to make sacrifices will understand this struggle. But the most important thing I learned is that while sometimes we must prioritize, we should never abandon what makes us who we are.

For a long time, I doubted my own abilities. I was not always the confident person I am today. I grew up with fears, with an inner voice questioning whether I was good enough. But with every step, every fall, and every round of applause, I gained confidence. It was during a break in my artistic journey that I decided to look toward a new horizon.

That was when I discovered the power of opportunities. Thanks to social media, I found debate clubs, competitions, and conferences. My planner transformed from a simple notebook into my best friend, my compass for organizing myself and making the most of every opportunity. I started journaling, planning each step, and little by little, I built my own path. In the world of debate, I met people with the same ambitions and dreams. In competitions, I found teammates who complemented my skills. And with each new challenge, I confirmed that what I want most is to contribute to something bigger than myself.

But along this journey, I also realized something: in Peru, many opportunities are centralized in the capital, limiting thousands of young people in the provinces. However, there are always exceptions that illuminate the path, like the III Summit of Young Innovative Leaders, organized by América Solidaria. This event gave me the opportunity to compete and win in both the Lima and National stages, but more importantly, it showed me that young people from all regions of the country have the same right to dream and build the future.

Inspired by that experience, I decided to create Youthpaq Future, a youth organization that aims to remove barriers to opportunity. We share information in Spanish, English, and Quechua because language should never be an obstacle to progress. We seek to provide young people with access to spaces for learning, growth, and real impact. Additionally, as a member of RENAJUV, I advocate for Bill 970, the General Youth Law, because I believe in a Peru where age is not a limitation but a strength to transform realities.

Being young means challenging limits. It means turning barriers into stepping stones, fears into motivation, and opportunities into change. But it also means understanding that not everyone starts from the same place, and it is our responsibility to make the path more accessible for those who come after us.

Because youth does not just dream—it builds, advances, and transforms. And in this country of history and resilience, we continue writing our own destiny.

Let us keep opening paths. Let us keep breaking barriers.
